National Capital Chapter

Text Box: Greetings NCC Members -

This month's Chapter meeting was held on September 10th at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC and included a viewing of "The Company Man", a film produced by the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division. The movie was based on a very recent FBI economic espionage and theft of trade secrets investigation from 2012 involving a prominent Midwestern-based company. The successful investigation ended with the conviction of two People’s Republic of China (PRC) subjects who tried to buy trade secrets from a confidential human source at the company who was fully cooperating with the FBI. The program was designed to help raise awareness within the private sector about the threat posed to the U.S. economy by economic espionage. SSA Mitch Kanefsky followed the movie with a very informative discussion of the Economic Espionage Act of 1996.

The Chapter's annual Golf Tournament was held on September 16th at Fair Lakes Golf Course (a full event recap follows). All of our golfers had a great time and supported a very worthwhile cause - Fisher House Foundation. Founded in 1990, Fisher House is “A home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military installations and VA medical centers. We would like to thank all of the participants and sponsors for this year's event. If you were unable to participate but would like to help in our efforts to raise money for Fisher House, there is still time to donate. Please visit our fundraising page.

We have a number of activities coming up next month. October 17th, we will be opening nominations for Chapter Executive Board positions. If you are interested in running for one of the leadership positions, please see the article below that provides more details. Additionally, we are always seeking volunteers for committee positions who can help us plan events throughout the year, attract new members or increase member involvement. Volunteering is such a great way to get the most of your ASIS membership and I strongly encourage all of our members to get involved in some way and continue the NCC's tradition of excellence.

October also means that it is time for our annual Chapter Survey. The survey will be available October 27th - November 7th. Please take a few minutes to respond to the survey and share your thoughts with us. We are currently working on our calendar of events for next year and your opinions will help the Chapter leaders plan events that will be of interest and value to our members.

Thank you again for another successful month. I invite you to join us for our next Chapter Meeting on October 15th at the Center for Personal Protection and Safety in Reston, VA. Dave Benson from CPPS will be discussing Travel Security for Business Professionals & Executives. It promises to be a very informative presentation and I look forward to seeing you all there!

You have probably noticed that our website is in need of a refresh. Well, good news! Thanks to our Chapter Secretary Chris Czarnowski and new Webmaster Dan Novak, we are very close to launching a brand new website. The new site has been on the Chapter's 'To Do' list for a few years now, so we are very excited to finally be able to announce that we are close to a launch date.
