ASIS International

National Capital Chapter

Text Box: Greetings NCC Members -

Spring is finally here! Hopefully we are done with the snow and can look forward to warmer weather and the Cherry Blossoms. That's not all that we have to look forward to ... the ASIS National Capital Chapter has a number of events planned that we want to invite you to attend.

Each year, the ASIS NCC awards scholarships students in security management, administration of justice and programs allied to security at the associate, baccalaureate and graduate levels with cash scholarships. During the year, the chapter raises money through donations, selling 50/50 tickets at meetings and hosting certification review courses. Awarding scholarships has been a tradition of the National Capital Chapter since 1983, and we are excited to be able to continue that tradition. It is an important opportunity for us to make a contribution to the community beyond our own membership. Scholarship Night will be held the evening of April 16th at Gannett/USA Today Headquarters in McLean, VA.

Our April Chapter Meeting will be held April 23rd. Please join us when Mr. Matthew McCabe, Senior Vice President from Marsh, will discuss cyber threats, who’s behind them, and their motivations. He will also speak about the thriving regulatory environment that has developed as a result of these threats. He will talk about nation states, terrorist organizations, hackers, and common criminals all who are attacking the networks.

As we continue to look forward, we have Law Enforcement Appreciation in May and our full day Security Seminar in June. Be looking for more information about these events coming soon.

I would like to encourage you to help us keep ASIS International and the National Capital Chapter strong so that we can continue to bring you value. The strength of ASIS is the knowledge and experience of our members that is brought to networking and educational programs. If you have not had a chance to renew your membership, there is still time to reinstate your membership. If you meet security professionals who are not yet members, share with them the benefits of membership. And remember, we are a professional organization of volunteers; so, your participation and contribution is key to our success! If you are interested in volunteering or getting involved in some way, please contact me at chair@asis-capital.org. I look forward to hearing from you!
