Text Box: Greetings NCC Members -

The ASIS NCC held our Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD) Luncheon on May 22, 2014, at the Gannett/USA Headquarters in Tysons Corner, VA. LEAD Chairperson, Don Orcutt, did an outstanding job again this year planning the event. Don also served as presenter, handing out awards to the men and women officers selected this year for their outstanding service. Don has planned this event for the last four years and has made the LEAD event something that our Chapter and the law enforcement community can look forward to each year. We would like to thank Don for all his efforts and dedication over the years. We look forward to continuing the tradition and building on the strong foundation he has established. Thank you, Don!

This year, we recognized the following law enforcement officers:

Community Policing
Trooper Ronchez Hancock—Virginia State Police
Officer Brendon Murphy—Fairfax County Police

Officer Eliezer Calo—Herndon Police
Senior Police Officer Warrie Profitt—Herndon Poice
Officer Derrick Williams—Maryland Capital Park Police

Award of Merit
Falls Church Rape, Aggression, and Defense Program (Lt Joe Carter accepting)

Officer of the Year
Corporal Robert Parker—Arlington Police

Our Guest Speaker was Mr. David Lord, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney. Mr. Lord has been an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Alexandria since 2006, where he is the White Collar Case Supervisor and also prosecutes felony sexual assaults. Mr. Lord discussed Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and Retail Theft, using the 2013 case of Commonwealth v. Marquett Gaskins, Jerry Simmmons and Trevon Jackson. The suspects committed multiple thefts from cell phone stores in the National Capital Area and were convicted of felonies utilizing RICO statutes. The case exemplified the importance of cooperation between multiple jurisdictions as well as private-public partnerships.
