National Capital Chapter

Text Box: Greetings NCC Members -

I am so excited to share with you some great news! The ASIS National Capital Chapter has been awarded the I.B. Hale Chapter of the Year Award (Group VII) for a 4th consecutive year. Additionally, the NCC also won the 2014 Newsletter of the Year award for Group VII. These awards are a reflection of the efforts of the Chapter's Executive board, hard working volunteers and members. Thank you to all of you who contribute your time and knowledge toward making our ASIS Chapter successful and ensure that we continue to bring value to our membership. ASIS and the ASIS Awards Committee will host a Chapter Awards Ceremony at the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits in Atlanta, GA. If you will be at the Seminar, we hope that you will attend the ceremony and help us exhibit our National Capital Chapter pride!

Chapter Awards Ceremony
Tuesday, September 30th
15:00 - 16:45 EDT (Networking Reception immediately following at 16:45 EDT)
Convention Center - Thomas Murphy Ballroom Building B, Sections 2-3

The NCC ended the summer strong with a number of events. August kicked off with our Annual PSP Review Course held in Reston, VA. We had more than 30 participants in this year's review. The course spanned three Saturdays and provided instruction and presentations for all domains presently addressed by the exam. We look forward to hearing back from all of them when they have passed the exam so that we congratulate them on their achievement.

On August 13th, we hosted the Chapter's Annual Private Security Appreciation Day. A full recap of the event follows; however, I would like to add my personal thanks to this year's committee. This is our largest event of the year and takes a great deal of planning to make it successful. The PSAD is an opportunity to recognize individuals who are on the 'front lines' of security and are an integral part of ensuring the security of the facilities that so many of us are responsible for keeping safe. It is always inspiring to hear their stories and have the opportunity to highlight the important work that they do.

The NCC Women in Security hosted an event on August 20th, "How to Successfully Navigate Social Media". Ms. Meredith Burkhart, Strategic Analyst with the FBI Cyber Division, discussed the benefits and cautions about marketing yourself for a security career on social networking forums like LinkedIn. Please remember that WIS events are open to all security professionals and all of our members are encouraged to attend.

Thank you again for your encouragement and support. Your participation, meeting attendance and continued feedback help us to keep the National Capital Chapter successful. I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming September Chapter Meeting - Raising Awareness about Economic Espionage.

Text Box: New ASIS National Capital Chapter Website to Launch Soon!

You have probably noticed that our website is in need of a refresh. Well, good news! Thanks to our Chapter Secretary Chris Czarnowski and new Webmaster Dan Novak, we are very close to launching a brand new website. The new site has been on the Chapter's 'To Do' list for a few years now, so we are very excited to finally be able to announce that we are close to a launch date.
