National Capital Chapter

Text Box: Greetings National Capital Chapter Members,

The National Capital Chapter ended its 2011 meeting schedule in grand style at Trump National Golf Course, courtesy of Falken Industries. What a great way to end the year, celebrating with our members, friends from the intelligence community and Infragard members. The chapter’s leadership team thanks Mr. Robert Ord and Thomas Walsh for the wonderful gift. In November, as promised, our Physical Security Committee delivered an outstanding day long program, showcasing the latest in physical security technology. We appreciated your feedback and are already making plans to present a bigger and better program later in 2012. Overall, the chapter had a phenomenal year. Thanks to all of our supporters, the membership for attending our events – but most importantly to our volunteer leadership team, who worked so very hard to bring us quality events throughout the year. In 2011, we became the largest chapter in ASIS; we grew our meeting attendance to an average of 75 per meeting, improved our communications and strengthened our treasury. All while fully funding our annual scholarship program, and expanding our Private Security and Law Enforcement Award programs. Thanks to the generosity of our members, we were able to provide substantial gifts to several charities, including the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and the Wounded Warrior Project.
For 2012, we welcome two new members to the Executive Board, Gary Hawkett, as our Treasurer and Angel Ross, as Programs Chair and Sergeant-at-Arms replacing Leon Beresford who moves on to the Vice Chair. We thank Clayton Young, our departing Vice Chair and Kelly Stewart, outgoing Treasurer, for their years of dedicated service. We also welcome a new ASIS Region XV Regional Vice President as one of our former chapter chairs, Bob Battani, CPP, assumes that role. We are building our 2012 calendar with a vision of accommodating a larger percentage of the chapter by offering some evening meetings and holding several events in downtown Washington. Please let us know if there is a particular subject or speaker we should pursue. Our goals for the year include revamping our website and getting our Women in Security and Young Professionals Liaison Programs operating at the level you deserve – please support Allison Gay and Dale Bowman, CPP, as they go about building programs and events for these two very important initiatives.
Lastly, thank you for the opportunity to serve as the National Capital Chapter’s chairman for 2012. I look forward to working with the volunteer leadership team and meeting more of you at our events throughout the year. Best wishes for a happy and productive 2012.
